A day at school
From the front door to dismissal
The rhythm is the same in every grade, so children know what comes next.
- 7:45
Step 1: The door opens
A teacher greets each child at the front door. Children hang up their coats and settle in the classroom.
- 8:00
Step 2: Morning prayer and class meeting
The day begins with prayer, the pledge and the plan for the day.
- 8:30
Step 3: Reading and writing
Reading in groups, then writing with a plan and a reader.
- 10:00
Step 4: Math
Math while minds are fresh, with time to work on problems together.
- 11:15
Step 5: Lunch and recess
Lunch at long tables with a teacher, then time outdoors in all but the worst weather.
- 12:15
Step 6: Religion, science and history
Afternoons turn to religion, the lab and the long timeline.
- 1:30
Step 7: Art, music, library and gym
One of these each afternoon, in turn, so that every week has all four.
- 3:10
Step 8: Closing prayer and dismissal
Teachers walk each child to the right car or to the after care room.
In winter
When the playground is under snow
Winters here are long. When the playground is snowed under, recess moves to the gym, and on Fridays classes meet there for a short assembly before the early dismissal.
Recess indoors on the coldest days
A Friday assembly in the gym
Snow closings sent by text before 6:30 a.m.

Before and after school
Care before the bell and after dismissal
Families use it for the days they need, and the office bills it by the month.
- 7:00
Before care
Opens at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast from home, quiet games and a teacher at the door.
- 3:10
After care
From dismissal until 5:30 p.m.: a snack, a homework hour for older students and outdoor time when the weather allows.
Ask about a day in your child's grade
At a visit you sit in on a morning class and see the rest of the day on the schedule.
